Re: New Computer Build

Kyle,

Your plans to add $1500 to existing parts for a build for a VERY demanding workflow:

  • Blackmagic CinemaDNG RAW media (can I assume 4K?)
  • Davinci Resolve... Premiere CC... After Effects used routinely as well

sound to me like the start of a painful experience.

I would offer that you need to either:

  • Increase your budget by about $750 for a x79 6-core system more adequate for your pretty demanding workflow. Think: i7-4930k, ASRock x79 Extreme6, 32GB of 1600 MHz RAM (OK for Premiere) or 64GB (much better for AE work), 3 or 4 7200RPM drives for a motherboard RAID 0 data array, GTX 770 4GB GPU, and 850 watt P/S.
  • Buy a used x58 6-core system

Don't even think about the sexy new Haswell-E (X99) systems that just came out; you need a lot of RAM, and right now the price of 32 or 64GB of DDR4 RAM is really, really out of your price point.

And finally, your plan is to purchase something in 2 months. Do yourself a favor and spend at lot of time at PPBM7.com and Googl'ing Blackmagic CenemaDNG RAW hardware. Here's a good link to start with from the PPBM7.com site:

What kind of PC to use?

Good luck!

Jim
