What update are you trying to install and on what version of the program?
Go to Help > About Dreamweaver to check your version. If you are trying to install 12.1 (Cloud) on 12.0x (Perpetual/Disk) you can't, they're separate programs. In that situation, as Nancy suggests, you may already be as up to date as possible with your version.
